Chess Set Pieces
Appraisal for antique chess pieces in Texas?
I have a full set of chess pieces (all metal, gold and silver in color) I inherited from my father after his last move. We found them in his attic while packing and neither of us knows how old they are or their value. As my husband and I are now jobless, we’d really like to find out… If anyone out there knows a way to get these pieces appraised maybe on-line or (cheaply) in person near Dallas, Texas, please let me know! Thanks!
The king is about 3″ tall. Very heavy. I can’t really tell what metal it is because it’s a little tarnished.
it’s probably brass & pewter……it could be silver-plated ?….it could be gold-plated?
the basic value depends on the size of the king….is it a small set?…is it a medium set?
(www. the chess store) has brand new sets……you can compare YOUR set against a brand-new set
don’t expect to get rich with this thing…..i have a 30 year old onyx set that is worth $200
……unless the set is 400 years old?…..it won’t have a lot of value !!…..almost all players consider this a “display-set”…….they’ll never play with it
my $30 set gets used ALL the time…..my onyx set is NEVER used !!…..i have a nice wood set that i use for family & friends
put it on e-bay and start the bidding at $500 & see what happens??
